An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is possible this evening for southeast Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, the potential for significant weather has now expanded from south central Kansas to southeast Kansas including the Coffeyville area. Hail up to softball size, winds up to 80 mph and some strong and long-track tornadoes are possible. Storms are expected for southeast Kansas between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., although timing could be a bit earlier for Chautauqua, Elk and Osage counties. If storms develop, they are expected to track to the northeast. The rest of the four-state area could see hail up to 2 inches, winds up to 70 mph and tornadoes possible. KGGF will provide severe weather coverage if needed this afternoon and tonight.
