***** Original Story *****

As of 7 this morning, the Verdigris River has now reached the action stage.

The river level at the Coffeyville gauge now measures 16 feet, which is not considered a flood stage, but is the action stage where officials now must take mitigation action in preparation for possible flooding.

Original Forecast:

The flood stage starts at 18 feet, and the river is expected to crest at 23 feet around 1 a.m. early tomorrow morning, which will have some minor flooding impacts for parts of Coffeyville.

At 18 feet, flooding of low-lying areas is expected, especially along the left bank near the Water Plant. Further upstream and downstream from the gage site the river spreads out into the flood plain.  At 20 feet, both banks along the river lowlands will overflow. The road floods along the intersection of South Buckeye Street and Eldridge Street near the state line.  At 22 feet, outside the levee system, the intersection of River Road and Stark Street floods. Flood waters expand to 1/4 of mile eastward on Stark Street.

Coffeyville is under a flood warning through 10 a.m. Wednesday.
