Does Independence need its own flag?

 That was the question put to the Independence City Commission at this week's meeting. Independence residents Anthony Paolini and Mason Metcalf presented the commission with a flag designed by Metcalf. Paolini says it would be a symbol to rally the community.

Commissioners seemed agreeable to the suggestion. Dean Hayse says other Kansas communities have adopted their own flags.

The commission accepted the flag from the two men but tabled any action on the proposal in order to give it more consideration.
