The City of Independence has hired a new Building Inspector.

 Assistant City Manager David Cowan has announced the appointment of Maurice Garlet as the new Building Inspector for the City of Independence.

Garlet brings experience in contracting, drafting, and construction design to his new position. He has owned his own construction company in the past and has been a licensed real estate professional in Texas for the past 14 years. He is also bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish. Garlet and his wife and son recently relocated to Independence from San Antonio.

As part of his new position, Garlet will serve in the capacity of Building Inspector Trainee for a period of time while completing the necessary requirements to obtain International Code Council Building Inspector Certification, which he anticipates achieving within a year.
