Neodesha City Commission Compromises on House Abatement

A contentious meeting of the Neodesha City Commission ends with a satisfactory compromise.

Like many area municipalities the City of Neodesha has been pursuing abatement for unsafe structures around the city. At yesterday's meeting one resident with property on the list of structures to be demolished told commissioners that they had fixed all of the things the city asked them to repair. The man asks the commission why his house is still scheduled to be demolished.

The man continued, stating that six months ago, he was promised that the house would not be demolished if improvement was shown. City Manager Brogan Jones says that improvement means the structure must be up to code.

After nearly ten minutes of back and forth, the commission agreed to give the property owner until June 12th to bring the building up to code.

In other business, Mayor Devin Johnson proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and also Fair Housing Month.
