The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office warns of a potential scam of someone impersonating an FBI agent.
Last week a Cherokee Count resident received a call from a thief posing as an FBI agent. The scammer told the resident that because he had missed a court hearing, a federal arrest warrant had been issued for him. The man receiving the call could avoid being arrested by paying a fine over the phone. The scammer sent a photo of the warrant by text.
The man recognized this as a scam and didn’t become a victim. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department reminds citizens that law enforcement doesn’t call suspects on the phone to let them know they have a warrant and law enforcement won’t ever call and ask for payment for something over the phone.
