Riverside Park in Independence will officially open for the season this Saturday.
Festivities begin at 11am on Saturday. This year's theme is “Go Bananas” to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Miss Able's successful flight into space. Independence Chamber President Lisa Wilson says there will be lots of fun things to do.
Wilson says there will also be a new event this year, sponsored by the First Leadership Youth. They will hold a Putt-Putt Tournament starting at 8am on Saturday. Teams of 4 players can sign up to compete and the entry fee is just $10. The park festivities run through 3pm.
