Fredonia Passes Vacant Property Registration Ordinance

The City of Fredonia has officially passed City Ordinance 2190 The Vacant Property Registry.

The new ordinance requires owners of residential, commercial, or industrial spaces not currently in active use to register those properties with the city. There is also a registration fee as part of the requirement. This includes any properties used solely for storage unless they are built specifically for that purpose; such as storage buildings and garages.

The ordinance aims to ensure that the city has adequate contact information for issues or concerns related to vacant buildings. The fees collected will support land bank expenses or abatement efforts that may become necessary in the future.

Landlords actively seeking tenants and homes actively for sale may be eligible for an exemption.

The deadline to register for this year is May 15th.

For more information on how to register a property or to inquire about potential exemptions, please contact the Fredonia City Hall.
