Accident During Traffic Stop Leaves One Person Injured

A Friday afternoon traffic stop in Crawford County leaves one person injured.

Around 3:15 on Friday afternoon, two Crawford County Sheriff's were in the process of a traffic stop on K-126 near the junction with US-69. Deputies had placed two suspects in the back of each of their patrol cars when they saw a Chevy Silverado pickup approaching them at a high rate of speed. Anticipating a collision, the deputies pushed a third person into a ditch and out of the way before jumping away from the truck themselves. The pickup truck then side-swiped both police vehicles and fled the scene. The arrestee in one of the vehicles received minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The other arrestee and the two deputies were unharmed.

Police located the vehicle about 20 minutes later. 25 year old Austin Lallemand of Walnut, KS, was arrested for the hit -and-run and also for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The investigation is ongoing.
