Columbus Man Receives 9 Year Sentence in Cherokee County

 A Columbus man was sentenced to nearly nine years in prison yesterday in Cherokee County District Court.

 50 year old Steven D. Tyner received his sentence after pleading guilty to Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. This was part of a plea deal that saw the dismissal rape and attempted murder charges stemming from a December 2022 incident .

Tyner is being held in the Cherokee County Jail and has one additional upcoming sentencing scheduled for April 2024 on allegations of violating the Kansas Offender Registration Act.

Tyner is required to register as a violent offender after having been found guilty 2007 for Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter.
