The City of Independence is offering a unique opportunity to support the community and be a part of history at the same time.
The city has started construction on the new Central Park Sports Complex on Park Boulevard. As a part of this, area residents – both past and present – can purchase engraved bricks to be a part of the Donor Brick Plaza. Independence City Recreation Director Brent Julian says it's a very easy process to purchase a brick.
Most of the funding for the project has come from grants, but Julian says the city is also relying on private donations to help build the new facilities.
Julian says bricks range in proce from $25 up $500 for corporate sponsorships. The new sports complex will feature baseball and softball fields but will also include a new soccer field, a lighted hiking trail and new parking.
