Happy Birthday, Kansas!

 Today is Kansas Day and marks the day in 1861 that Kansas became the 34th state in the Union.

 According to the Kansas Historical Society, the first Kansas Day was celebrated in 1877 in Paola, where public school students cekbrated their pride in being Kansans. Students spent the day discussing and displaying information and facts about the state. The day was such a success that the celebration quickly spread throughout the rest of the state and by the early 1880s, it was a day all school children celebrated. So …
