Joplin Police Gives Update on Christmas Eve Incident

 

 The Joplin Police Department releases the name of the man involved in an incident Christmas Eve in Joplin.

 The deceased individual has been identified as 58-year-old James Fischer, of Joplin.

 Christmas Eve, just before 4:30 p.m., Joplin Police received a call concerning a person in distress in the 1600 block of East Vandalia Street in Joplin. The individual, who expressed self-harming intentions, requested police assistance. Upon arrival, officers found Fischer in the front yard of the specified address. A confrontation led to shots exchanged. Fischer sustained gunshot injuries, was transported to Mercy Hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.

 JPD officials confirm that two officers discharged their weapons during the incident; no officers sustained injuries.

 The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave; the Missouri State Highway Patrol will conduct the investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled for today.
