An Illinois woman is dead after a single vehicle crash on Christmas Eve southwest of Springfield, MO.

 75 year old Irvin Smith was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion south on State Route H through Friestatt, MO, around 6:15 Saturday evening. According to the Missouri highway Patrol, the Fusion failed to negotiate a sharp curve, left the roadway, and struck an abandoned house. Smith suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin. His passenger, 70 year old Mary Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner.

Both victims were from Dupo, Illinois.
