Bloody Bender Property Could Yield Clues to Killers' Legacy

One of Kansas' most infamous families, the Bloody Benders murdered at least 11 people in the 1870s and then buried them on their property near Parsons.

When the family's terrible deeds were finally discovered, the family had vanished. The notorious local serial killers have captured the imagination of many people in southeast Kansas.

Bob Miller, owner of the land where the Bender house stood, recently partnered with a team of archaeologists from the University of Kansas in an attempt to locate the actual site of the old cabin. Miller says finding any of the old buildings would help find the rest of the Bender homestead.

The archaeological team was on site in July and took more than 100 pieces of glass and pottery for analysis. The team plans to return next summer to continue their work in hopes of finding the house and burial sites, with the possibility that there may still be victims whose bodies have not yet been found.
