Milk production in Kansas and Oklahoma is down.

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, milk production in Kansas during September 2023 totaled 329 million pounds, which is down 4% from September of 2022. The average number of milk cows was 169,000 head, 6,000 head less than September of last year. Milk production per cow averaged 1,945 pounds.

In Oklahoma, milk production for July through September totaled 149 million pounds, down 8 percent compared with last year. The average number of milk cows in Oklahoma during the quarter totaled 37,000 head, down 1,000 head from the same quarter in 2022.
