The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks successfully reintroduces a protected species of mussel to the Neosho River.
KDWP says the purpose of the project is to create self-sustaining populations of the federally endangered Neosho Mucket Mussel in order to recover, de-list, and deregulate the mussel population. Around 1,300 of the mussels have been released into the Neosho River from the Neosho Fish Hatchery and the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium.
