ICC Board of Trustees Candidates Speak at Forum

Candidates for the Independence Community College Board of Trustees speak out about the issues.

At last night's candidate forum in Independence, candidates for the ICC Board spoke out about what they see as the major problems facing the college and discussed their proposed solutions. When asked the same question, candidate Jason Williams says his concern is what goes on in the classroom.

Williams drew an amused chuckle from the crowd when he added he agreed with the positions of candidate Jennifer Williams because she is his wife. Candidate Jennifer Williams says she thinks graduation rates and the types of classes offered are important.

Williams added that a focus on vocational-technical classes instead of general education classes would help boost enrollment. Candidate Mark Lasater says he was concerned about ICC spending $40,000 on a consultant.

Lasater added that having high quality faculty would help attract good students and raise graduation rates at ICC. Candidate Susan Porter says the things she's sees as important are enrollment and money.

Porter added that she thinks it's important to look for energy forms that don't destroy the environment. These candidates plus candidates Patti Snyder and Spencer Weaver will be on the ballot on November 7th
