Wilson County Loses Two More Corrections Officers

Wilson County continues to struggle with retaining corrections officers, losing two more COs last week.

Earlier this year, the county had less than 50% of the needed staffing required to operate normal day-to-day operations. Sheriff Jack Lucke told commissioners this week that an additional two officers have quit, leaving the county short handed once again.

Additionally, the commissioners heard from Stan Jones of the Kansas Down Payment Association regarding down payment assistance for citizens of the county and its cities. The cities of Cherryvale and Independence have adopted the plan already.

Other items of business at this week's commission meeting was an update from County Clerk Kayla Bush regarding the hiring process for an employee in the clerk's office, as well as an executive session regarding non-elected personnel, with no action taken.
