The Labette County Sheriff's Office and the Parsons Police Department continue to investigate the death of a K9 officer.

 K9 officer Karim died on August 22 in h is kennel at the Parsons Police Department. His handler has now been placed on administrative leave and a personnel investigation has been opened to determine if any policy or work rules were violated in connection with the police dog's death.

K9 Karim's remains were turned over to K-State's School of Veterinary Medicine for a thorough examination. Following the examination, K9 Karim was cremated and his ashes were picked up at the end of September. His ashes were turned over to the Wall Funeral Home until a memorial service can be scheduled following the conclusion of the investigation into his passing.
