Community Health Center Seeks Support From Montgomery County

A new transportation service seeks support to expand into Montgomery County.

Representatives from the Community Health Center of South East Kansas and Building Health Inc appeared before the Montgomery County Commission yesterday with the hopes of gaining county support to bring a new, free transportation service to the area. The group is seeking grant money from the Kansas Department of Transportation and asked commissioners for a letter of support. Community Health Center transportation manager Dee Yount says the service would help older adults who can no longer drive, people with disabilities, and those with limited income.

The service already exists in Crawford and Bourbon counties and provided more than seven thousand rides in those counties last year. It would supplement services already provided by Four County. County Commissioners listened to the presentation, asked questions about the program, and agreed to discuss the proposal before giving the group a definitive answer.
