County zoning is up for discussion in Montgomery County.

 At today's Montgomery County Commission meeting, Environmental and zoning Director Matt Debo raised the issue of county zoning with commissioners. Working together with the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the proposal was to consider new zoning regulations for commercial and industrial renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines and wind farms, or to consider zoning for all commercial and industrial projects. Commission chairman Robert Bever

says the county needs to find a balance between regulation and economic activity.

Commissioner Mike Cordray agreed with Bever's concern.

Commissioners agreed to consult with nearby counties such as Elk and Labette to see how zoning has worked in those areas and to begin the process of looking into zoning guidelines for renewables. Commission Chairman Bever emphasized that they should take things one step at a time.
