Independence City Commission Considers Condemning Several Structures

The City of Independence is considering the condemnation of several structures in the city.

At last week's city council meeting, city commissioners in Independence set a date for a condemnation hearing for several dilapidated structures in the city. Assistant City Manager David Cowan showed the commission images of the buildings and spoke about the issues and concerns they are causing.

Four of the structures are located on South 15th and another on North 9th street. The commission agreed to set a hearing date for all of the structures for December 14th. In other business at last week's meeting, the commission voted to move Independence from a water watch to a water warning and encouraged residents to increase their efforts at conserving water.
