For Independence residents, the choice is October is Beauty or Beastly …
At least for those participating in the 2023 Neewollah Yard Decorating Contest. This year's theme is “Beauty and the Beast.” The contest is open to all Independence residents and is for exterior decorations only. Entry is free and will be accepted starting Monday through Friday the 13th . Submit entries by mail or by stopping by the Neewollah headquarters at 300 North Penn (in the old Sears building). Displays will be judged on October 19th and will be rated on their curb appeal from the street view. Corner lots will be judged on both sides. First place will get a yard sign and a gift basket. There will also be a Generalissimo's Choice that will win a sign and $25 in Main Street Bucks.
