Kansas hog and pig inventory is up two percent according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
As of September 1st, all hogs and pigs in Kansas totaled 1.96 million head. Breeding hog inventory was up 6% from last year and market hog inventory was up 1% from last year. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.20 for the June - August period, compared to 10.95 last year. Kansas hog producers intend to farrow 72,000 sows during the September through November 2023 quarter, down 11% from the actual farrowings during the same period a year ago.
