Indy First Responders Receive Commendations for Life-Saving Efforts

 An Independence Police Officer receives a Life-Saving Award at last night's city commission meeting.

 Sergeant Christina Johnson of the IPD was recognized by Police Chief Jerry Harrison for her life-saving efforts after responding to an emergency call and finding a person in cardiac arrest. Sergeant Johnson began CPR on the victim and continued until EMS arrived to provide a high level of care. The patient was then transported to Labette Health in Independence, where they recovered from their ordeal. Also recognized at last night's meeting were EMS team members Jasmine Reeves, Aaron Cook, Randy McDaniel, and Jonathan Martin. The efforts of all five were commended by Mayor Louis Ysusi and city commissioners Tim Emert and Dean Hayse.
