Suspect in Custody in Wayside Shooting

The Kansas highway Patrol along with deputies from have arrested Robert Darrow of Wayside in connection with a weekend shooting.

At around 8pm Saturday night, Montgomery County Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a subject who had been shot at 210 East Bell Street in Wayside, which is 13 miles southwest of Independence on US 75 highway. Upon arrival, they located a male subject who was later Identified as Nathaniel Rush of Caney, Kansas. Rush had critical injuries and needed immediate medial attention. He was life flighted to an area hospital and treated for his injuries. The suspected shooter had fled the scene.

Detectives with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office crime scene unit began processing the scene. Deputies along with the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) were tasked to search for the suspect. Later KHP located the suspects’ vehicle at a residence in Independence. KHP along with MGSO deputies located the suspect Darrow and took him into custody.

Family of the victim say he is alive and in stable condition.

When the investigation is concluded, it will be sent to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for review.
