And now for your daily dose of cuteness …
The Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita welcomes a baby chimpanzee born on August 20. The baby is named Alizeti, which means “sunflower” in Swahili. Alizeti was born healthy but was later removed from the rest of the chimpanzee troop after zoo keepers observed her mother was not exhibiting maternal behavior. This life-saving step was taken to ensure the newborn animal has the best chance to survive. The baby chimp will be cared for until she is old enough and strong enough to be returned to the troop to be raised by a foster mother and the rest of her chimpanzee family.
