Exercise Course Offered in Independence

There's a new opportunity for older residents to get fit in Independence.

Kansas State Research and Extension is offering an 8-week exercise course for older residents starting September 12. The hour long class meets twice a week and will focus on strength training. Research shows this type of activity can help improve balance, strengthen muscles, control weight, improve flexibility, reduce stress, strengthen bones, and reduce the risk of heart disease. The course will feature warm-up stretching exercises, weight training with or without wrist and ankles weights, and cool down. When the course ends, attendees can continue the exercises in the comfort of their own homes. The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 am at the Wildcat Research and Extension office at 410 North Peter Pan Road in Independence. The course runs from September 12 through November 2 and the cost is $20. Make checks payable to Wildcat Extension District. Registration deadline is September 8.
