One is dead and another injured after a four-vehicle crash in Kay County.

The fatality collision happened Sunday on Interstate 35 northbound at mile marker 221, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. A 2014 Toyota Tundra, driven by 44-year-old Byron Richmond, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane for an unknown reason. The Tundra collided head-on with a 2021 Ford F-350, driven by 23-year-old Earl Hayden York. This caused a 2022 Chevy Silverado, driven by 54-year-old David Boisvert, to impact the F-350 on the passenger side. A 1997 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 47-year-old Jose Hernandez swerved to avoid hitting the other vehicles causing him to hit a cable barrier.

Richmond was pronounced dead at the scene by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner. York was transported by Medi-flight and admitted in critical condition with head and internal injuries. Both Boisvert and Hernandez were not injured. According to the report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Richmond may have been under the influence of alcohol.
