Soybean Condition Improves, Near Average

Soybeans in the area are doing better than this time last year.

That's according to K-State Research and Extension Crop Agent James Coover, who says recent rains have helped.

The latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service report shows soybean condition in Kansas at 11% very poor, 19% poor, 33% fair, 31% good and 6% excellent. Soybeans in Oklahoma are rated slightly better, with 39% reported fair and 51% excellent.

Corn in Kansas listed as mature is 59%, ahead of the state average of 20%. Sorghum headed in Oklahoma is behind the average, while progress is ahead of last year in Kansas at 84% but still near the average of 88%.
