Saturday Morning Accident in Joplin Kills One, Injures One

A one vehicle accident Saturday morning in south Joplin kills the driver and injures the passenger.

Captain William Davis of the Joplin Police Department says the accident took place just after 11:00 Saturday morning, on eastbound I-44 and Main Street, near Mercy Hospital. Witnesses say the 2016 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, driven by 32-year-old Ryan Malone of Springdale, Arkansas, was traveling at a high rate of speed and went off the south side of the road. The vehicle then traveled under the I-44 guardrail, began overturning, crossed the I-44 Main Street eastbound on-ramp and came to a stop in the deep ravine near the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room.

The driver was pronounced deceased on scene, while an unidentified adult female passenger was transported to Mercy Hospital with moderate injuries.

Joplin Police and Fire and Newton County Ambulance responded, along with assistance from Mercy Security.

The investigation is ongoing by the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team.
