Multi-Vehicle Crash East of Independence

Several people are injured in a multi-vehicle crash east of Independence.

 

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:20 last night on U.S. 160 eastbound at the intersection of 4900 Road. Three separate vehicles were headed eastbound. Sixty-one-year-old William Martin of Cherryvale was driving a 1972 Ford F250 and attempted to make a left-hand turn. A 2015 Ford F150 driven by 27-year-old Reid Hugo of Cherryvale then struck a 2019 Hyundai Elantra driven by 59-year-old Lee Maley of Altamont, which struck Martin's F250. Maley's Elantra then continued into the westbound lane and struck a 2008 Chevy Tahoe driven by 72-year-old Adah Creek of Cherryvale. Martin and Hugo had no apparent injury while Maley was taken to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center with a suspected serious injury. Creek was taken to a Joplin hospital with a suspected serious injury. Three children riding in the Tahoe with Creek all received suspected minor injuries. Hugo and Maley were both wearing their seatbelts while all others involved in the crash were not.
