Record High Temp Set, Area Prepares for Continued Heat Wave

A record high temperature is set in Coffeyville over the weekend.

On Sunday a temperature of 107 degrees was measured at the Coffeyville airport, breaking the old record of 103 set in 2001.  The heat wave will continue until at least Thursday for the area. Coffeyville could see a heat index near 113, while the tri-state area could see up to 117. Excessive heat warnings are in effect now until Thursday at 10 p.m. for southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri, and northeast Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas are also included in excessive heat warnings for the next two days. The Kansas and Oklahoma animal comfort indices are well into heat danger for the next three days, and the Southwest Power Pool anticipates high energy demands today and tomorrow. The Coffeyville Municipal Light and Power steam plant has been up and running since yesterday morning to help with the additional demand.
