The Independence City Commission holds a special meeting on the budget.
Commissioners covered several issues at yesterday's special meeting, but the 2024 budget garnered the most discussion. Among topics was concern residents' concern that higher home value assessments will lead to higher taxes. Commissioner Tim Emert says that's not necessarily the case.
Other topics before the commission yesterday included the approval to waive rummage sale permit fees for the upcoming Kan-Okla sale and the removal of a trailer house on north 10th street. The Commission will meet to discuss the revenue neutral rate and for a public hearing on the budget on September 14th at the Civic Center in Independence.
