The USD 446 school board is taking steps to prepare for the new school year beginning this week.

 

The board approved the 2023-2024 Budget Publication that was issued by the Kansas State Department of Education. The budget must be used by all unified school districts, and determines a consistent tax levy for districts.

 

USD 446 also announced the employment of 43 individuals to the district, including staff for the Kids Crew program, a new athletic secretary at Independence Middle School, and a new Head Boys Swim Coach at Independence High School.

 

Additional items of business at this month's school board meeting was an update on fall sports schedules and the first day of school from Superintendent Jason McAfee, as well as executive sessions regarding negotiations and personnel.

 

The USD 446 Board meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Independence High School.
