Free Public Transportation Coming to Labette County

General public transportation is coming to Labette County. The transportation comes from SEK-CAP, who offers transportation in Cherokee and Crawford County as well. Director of Transportation Scott Christiansen says at least 24-hour notice is recommended to request a ride.

Transportation will be provided anywhere in the county and can be given for doctor's visits, trips to Walmart or to community events. There are no restrictions as long as it is during their route run times. Christiansen says they offer this service at no cost.

The Kansas Department of Transportation provides 70% of the funding with the other 30% coming from matching funds. The Labette County Commission voted to provide $4,826 of the $9,826 needed, with the remaining $5,000 coming from LHEAT through a grant. More information about what days and times the routes will be running will be made in the next couple of weeks.
