A vehicle / pedestrian accident yesterday afternoon takes the life of the pedestrian.

 The call came into 9-1-1 just after 1:30, reporting the vehicle versus pedestrian crash near I-44 and Main Street in Joplin. Joplin emergency officials responding found the pedestrian deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.

 Preliminary details show a vehicle driving westbound on I-44 when 23-year-old Cory Fitzjohn of Joplin attempted to cross I-44 near Main and was struck by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

 Next of kin has been notified. The investigation by the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is ongoing.
