The city of Independence prepares to rebuild a downtown parking lot.

 At the Independence City Commission meeting last night, commissioners discussed plans to renovate the parking lot at the corner of 6th and Myrtle streets downtown. City Engineer John Garris says one of the reasons for the proposed six hundred thousand dollar project is to bring the lot up to modern standards. Mayor Louis Ysusi says it might be a close call to get the project to come in under the six hundred thousand dollar budget. The plan to rebuild the parking lot moves on to the stage of planning after passing by a 2 to 1 vote.
