Back to School Reminders for Drivers

It's back to school time across the four state area.

Parsons USD 503 wants to remind residents about a few important things as area kids head back to class. First, drivers should be cautious, especially at street corners and crosswalks as neighborhood children begin walking to and from school. Drivers are also reminded that stopping for school buses that have engaged their flashing lights and extended their stop signs is mandated by law. The Kansas Department of Education says failure to stop for a school bus can result in a fine and court costs of more than four hundred dollars. For driver and student safety, please be aware of school zones and children in or near them. Students in Independence and Neodesha begin classes next Wednesday, while students in Coffeyville, Parsons, Caney and Sedan go back to school next Thursday, and Cherryvale returns a week from Friday. Students in Fredonia are back to school on August 23rd.
