The downtown awnings along 9th Street in downtown Coffeyville are coming down. Coffeyville City Commissioners last night unanimously approved a plan to remove the awnings on the south side of 9th Street. In addition to the awnings removal the plan also includes removal of the green spaces and replacing them with stamped concrete and artificial greenery and providing financial assistance to building owners to improve their facades after the awnings are removed.
A large contingent of citizens spoke on both sides of the issue at last night’s Commission meeting. One of the concerns expressed were the repair of vacant buildings along the corridor. City Manager Mark Hall said there are plans to ensure compliance with code including legal..
Hall said removal of the awnings will begin after October 31st after Dalton Defender Days and Brewfest are over.
