The US Department of Agriculture released last month's Kansas Crop Progress and Soil condition report. Data for the report was provided at the county level by USDA Farm Service Agency, KSU Extension Service, and other reporters across the State.
For the week ending January 1st, topsoil moisture rated 43% very short, 26% short, 29% adequate, and 2% surplus, and subsoil moisture rated 47% very short, 43% short, 18% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Winter wheat conditions rated 23% very poor, 26% poor, 32% fair, 17% good and 2% excellent, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
