The Cherokee County commission placed a one-year moratorium on wind energy development in the county. This comes after a special meeting was held, in which a Neosho County and Labette County commissioner attended to give their advice. Labette County Commission Chairman Lonie Addis says he recommended a moratorium.

Addis says RWE, which is the same company currently trying to develop in Labette County, has already begun trying to sign lease contracts with landowners in Cherokee County.  Addis has been the only commissioner in Labette County to oppose wind development. He and several other county residents have tried to get a moratorium passed in Labette, but it has failed each time.
