Reliable electricity is a must in Kansas during the summer with excessive heat warnings almost a daily fixture. As much as the heat can be worrisome, so are scammers who are calling residents on a utility scam. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt gives the details of this scam.

Schmidt says if you do get behind on a payment, the utility service will be in contact with you about the money you owe, but they will not use these urgency calls demanding payment right now. Schmidt says the best thing to do if you receive this type of call is to hang up.
