Kansas' longtime Attorney General has announced his bid for the governorship in 2022.

Derek Schmidt, who has served as the state's Attorney General since 2010, announced his run in an online video posted early Tuesday. He highlighted his past work and support for former President Donald Trump's policies.

Schmidt joins a list of Republicans interested in taking back the governorship. Former Kansas governor Jeff Colyer, who lost the GOP primary to Kris Kobach in 2018, has announced his interest in running again. The winner of the GOP primary wil challenge Democratic Governor Laura Kelly, who is up for reelection in 2022.
