Caney Man Arrested After Foot Chase

Two men were arrested earlier this week with one leading police on a foot chase in Caney.

Officers with the Caney PD were notified of a residential burglary that had occurred in the 200 block of East 2nd Street. During a search, officers located a vehicle at the car wash on West 4th St. that was connected to the person in question. When Officers attempted to approach the suspect, who was identified as 36-year-old Travis Smith, he fled on foot. One officer gave chase and the other officer arrested 28-year-old Harley Dean on a warrant out of Arkansas.

Multiple police agencies engaged in a manhunt and Smith was eventually found hiding in the attic of an abandoned house. Smith has numerous pending cases in Montgomery County including an aggravated failure to appear warrant.

After a search of Smith's vehicle, officers found suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and numerous stolen items from the earlier burglary. Smith will face charges of resisting arrest/fleeing and obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.
