Four Arrested in Connection with Stolen Vehicle

 

Tuesday morning the Labette County Sheriff Deputies began pursuit of a vehicle after the vehicle passed a deputy going 114mph. After about an 11 mile pursuit the vehicle lost control and wrecked. The suspects fled on foot and the deputies were informed the vehicle was reported stolen from Cherryvale. The sheriffs office received information a yellow vehicle was headed to aid the suspects. A Deputy located a yellow 2006 Chevy Aveo and after a high-risk vehicle stop was performed the occupants were identified as Taren Savage, of Parsons, and Jordan Marshall, of Cherryvale. Savage was released but Marshall was turned over to Cherryvale PD wanted for a burglary that was committed on Monday. Labette County Dispatch received a report of a man flagging down motorists. Deputies responded to the area and located Benjamin Whitaker, of Independence, deputies arrested Whitaker for an outstanding Kansas Parole Warrant. He was later identified as the second suspect from vehicle pursuit.

 

Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers relocated the yellow Aveo and as the Trooper conducted a traffic stop, the occupants exited and ran into a wooded area. After about a 45-minute manhunt, KHP Troopers took Hale and Savage into custody after being found hiding in a camper trailer within a mile of the traffic stop.

 

Whitaker was booked into the Labette County Jail for Kansas Parole Warrant, possession of stolen property and felony interference with a Law Enforcement Official. Hale was booked into the Labette County Jail for possession of stolen property and felony interference with a Law Enforcement Official. Savage was booked into the Labette County Jail for Felony Obstructing Apprehension Charges are being filed in cooperation with Labette County Attomey's Office and the investigation is on-going. In a collaborative effort of area law enforcement, the Labette County Sheriff's Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Cherryvale Police Department, the Altamont Police Department, the Parsons Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Highway Patrol Aviation Unit coordinated efforts during this situation to bring these suspects into custody.
