Prominent Southeast Kansas Musician Passes

A longtime music legend from southeast Kansas, Vernon Sandusky of Edna has passed away.

 

Sandusky played guitar and sang vocals for a number of bands if national prominence from the 1960’s through the 1990’s.  He first became recognized as a member of Bobby Poe and the Poecats who performed with Wanda Jackson on tour and in the studio.  Following the Poecats Sandusky was a prominent member, playing lead guitar and vocals for the Chartbusters who had a national Top 40 hit with “She’s the One.” 

Sandusky went on to perform as a member of Rodney Lay and the Wild West and Roy Clark.

 

Sandusky toured the world as a performing musician and is a member of both the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and Kansas music Hall of Fame.  Sandusky was 80 years old.
