Former Independence city commissioner Gary Hogsett received a plaque at the beginning of Thursday's regular commission meeting, honoring his years of service as a city commissioner and city mayor. Hogsett served as a commissioner from August 2014 to January 2020, and also served as mayor from February 2016 to January 2017. 

Hogsett did not run for reelection, allowing the newly-elected Dean Hayse to take his place on the three-person commission.
