Fire Danger in Southeast Kansas

The National Weather Service in Wichita is warning for the potential for grassfires Wednesday in southeast Kansas due to high winds and warmer temperatures.

Montgomery, Chautauqua, Labette, Wilson and Neosho counties have been placed in the “Very High” category on the fire index scale while Elk and Greenwood counties were put in the “Extreme” category.

NWS says the main time frame for the potential of grassfires is Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening and any fires that start during this time frame will be difficult to control.
